Nashville hot chicken sandwiches have been rising in popularity over the past few years and the craze has hit Downtown LA with no exception.  With the popularity being heightened by the Popeyes chicken sandwich craze in 2019, it seems that I hear of a new hot chicken spot every week.  Now, it seems like everyone’s trying to capitalize on the craze, as Chick-fil-a and Shake Shack both brought new hot chicken sandwich options to their menu.

However, Michin Dak is not just another Nashville hot chicken sandwich. Michin Dak (which translates to ‘crazy chicken’) specializes in Korean fried chicken sandwiches. While they may taste similar there are subtle differences.  Anyone who has frequented a Korean restaurant can attest to the fact that Koreans know how to do spicy.  Michin Dak offers five levels of heat: Original, medium, hot, extra hot and Michin spicy.  Knowing well that I could be out of my league, I played it safe and went with the medium level “Slap in the Face”.  Past medium, some of the sauce names were quite intimidating; “RIP” and “Blood, sweat and tears” to name a few.  So, you might understand my timidity.

I’ve patronized more than my fair share of hot chicken sandwich shops, but so far Michin Dak takes the crown.  Most places that I’ve been to have most things right, but always fall short on something.  They might have a great bun, but the pickles are too salty, or the chicken is overcooked. Michin Dak had it all, the bun was good, the chicken was plump and juicy, fried to perfection, and their pickles and slaw were on point!  The heat level was good, but I realized that I could go hotter. If you like a little kick, medium is good and might break a sweat; but if you like a challenge, I suggest starting at their hot level and go up from there.  The combo comes with thick cut seasoned fries which were nothing to turn your nose at either; but let’s be real, I came for the chicken.

Overall, I’d give their chicken sando combo a solid 5/5 bombs.  As of now, Michin Dak holds true to the name “Best Around Me.”  I can’t wait to go back and give the blood sweat and tears a go.
